Why Messages Get Blocked or Marked as Spam

Why Messages Get Blocked or Marked as Spam

Understand common causes of SMS/MMS filtering and review the delivery result before changing or resending a message.

A text can be rejected, filtered or left without delivery confirmation for several reasons. A missing message is not automatically a spam block. Start with the recorded result rather than repeatedly changing the wording and resending.

A practical sequence for investigating a message that did not arrive.

Common reasons to investigate

  • Permission: the recipient did not agree to the messages, opted out, or reported them as unwanted.
  • Sender setup: messaging is not enabled, or the required business registration or verification is incomplete or does not cover the actual use.
  • Content and links: the message is misleading, conceals the sender, uses suspicious destinations, or contains content the service does not support.
  • Sending pattern: an unexpected campaign volume or repetitive unwanted traffic can trigger restrictions. The allowed volume and sending rate depend on the approved program and service configuration.
  • Destination or attachment: the number may not support the message type, may be invalid, or the media may not meet the applicable requirements.
  • Reporting: no delivery confirmation has arrived. That is different from a confirmed rejection.

What to check first

  1. Find the exact message by date, sending number and recipient.
  2. For a group campaign, use Conversations → Group Messages → Sent Messages → Show info → Delivery report. For failed or unconfirmed texts, open Analytics → Undelivered Messages and filter by date, status, sending line or user; use the search field to find the recipient or error.
  3. Read the result and any error. Follow SMS/MMS delivery troubleshooting.
  4. Check Opted-Out, your consent record and the approved purpose before preparing another send.
  5. Correct the identified issue, then use one authorized test if appropriate. Recheck the result.

For a broader message history, use Analytics → Messaging Insight. Unconfirmed does not prove rejection, and No reason reported does not identify a spam block.

Do not try to bypass a restriction

Changing numbers, rotating links or altering words to evade a block does not resolve consent or program problems. Templates, personalization and registration do not guarantee delivery. Ask Zonitel Support to review persistent failures with the timestamp, sender, recipient and error.
