How to Set Up and Manage Auto-Pay
Enable recurring invoice payments with a saved or new method, confirm the setting and check what to do if a charge fails.
What Auto-Pay does
Auto-Pay uses your recurring payment method for phone service invoices. It reduces manual work, but a declined charge, insufficient funds or an expired method can still leave an invoice unpaid. Continue checking payment results and due dates.
Choose the correct location, then open Settings → Billing → Payment methods. For the separate AI and messaging balances, see Managing Your Payments and Subscriptions.
Use a saved method
- Find the method you want to use.
- Open its Actions menu.
- Choose Use for Recurring Billing.
- Confirm which method is marked for recurring billing.
A card merely saved on file is not the same as a card selected for Auto-Pay. Do not assume a second saved card will automatically be tried if the selected one fails.
Use a new card
- Click Add payment method.
- Enter the cardholder’s first and last name, card number, expiration, CVV and billing ZIP code.
- Select Use always — Use automatically for all my future payments if you want recurring use.
- Click Add method and confirm the method’s recurring status.
Leaving Use always unchecked saves the method without requesting automatic use through that checkbox.
Bank account payments
Where the invoice payment flow offers ACH, follow its bank-account instructions and review any save/recurring option before confirming. The Add payment method form pictured above is for cards. If ACH or a recurring option is not shown, contact support rather than entering bank details in card fields.
Confirm that an invoice was paid
- Check Payments made for the payment and its status.
- Match it to the invoice and check the invoice status.
- Review the confirmation email and any failure notification.
Turning on Auto-Pay alone is not proof that an existing outstanding invoice has been paid. Check that invoice before deciding whether a manual payment is needed.
If a charge fails
Check the selected method, expiration, billing ZIP and available funds. Review payment history before retrying to avoid a duplicate charge. Update the method if necessary; contact your bank for a decline or Zonitel for an unclear invoice/payment status.
When replacing a card, add and select the new method first, then confirm the recurring setting before removing the old method. Check each location separately.
To stop recurring payment, see Disabling Auto-Pay. For a one-time payment, see Making Manual Payments.
