Make and Receive Calls from Your Browser
Open the Zonitel web phone from Office, set up audio, make and receive calls, and troubleshoot connection or ringing issues.
Use the Phone option in your Zonitel Office portal to open the browser-based phone at calls.zonitel.com. This separate tab contains the Softphone, where you can dial numbers, receive calls routed to your extension, search contacts and configure your audio.
Before you start
- You need access to the Office portal and an extension configured for your account. If the wrong extension appears or none is available, contact your administrator.
- Use a computer with a microphone and speakers or a headset, and a stable internet connection.
- Allow microphone access for calls.zonitel.com. Keep the phone tab open and your computer awake while you want to receive calls.
1. Open the web phone
- Sign in to office.zonitel.com.
- Click Phone in the left menu, or the headphone icon in the top bar. The phone opens in a new tab at calls.zonitel.com.
- If prompted to sign in, use the access assigned to you. Ask your administrator if you are unsure which account to use.
- Check the extension shown in the Softphone and wait for Connected before making calls.
Left menu: Phone
Top bar: headphone icon
The Office portal and the phone are separate tabs. Return to Office for reports and account administration; keep the phone tab open for browser calling.
2. Set up microphone, speaker and notifications
- Open Settings in the Softphone.
- Expand Permissions. Use Request Media Permissions if microphone access is needed, then allow the microphone in your browser prompt.
- Expand Audio Devices. Choose the intended Microphone and Speaker. Use the corresponding Test buttons to check your setup.
- In Permissions, review browser notifications for incoming calls. Notifications Enabled means they are already enabled.
If you previously blocked the microphone, review the site permissions for calls.zonitel.com in your browser and your computer's microphone privacy settings. A notification permission does not replace microphone access.
3. Make a call
- Select Dialer.
- Type the destination in Enter number, or use the on-screen keypad.
- Check the number, then use the handset button to start the call. The call button is disabled when the number field is empty.
- Use the call controls displayed during the conversation to end the call when finished.
You can also use Contacts and Search contacts... to find a contact. Recents includes Search recents... for locating entries in the phone's recent-call list. For the full Office call history and exports, use the related guide below.
4. Receive calls and control availability
When a call is routed to your extension, use the incoming-call controls shown in the phone to answer or decline it. Check Settings → Availability if calls are not ringing:
- Extension registered: the phone shows Receiving calls when the extension is registered for incoming calls.
- Do Not Disturb: automatically rejects incoming calls while keeping the extension registered. Turn it off when you want to receive calls.
Connected alone does not guarantee that a call will ring. Availability and your business's call routing must also allow that call to reach your extension. Ask your administrator to review routing if only some calls are missing.
Other useful settings
- Caller Info: enable Show incoming caller info to open the caller's information beside the phone while it rings. Available information may include the contact, upcoming appointments and CRM data.
- Audio Configuration: adjust Call Volume and Microphone Gain gradually. This section also includes Echo Cancellation, Noise Suppression and Auto Gain Control. Use Save Audio after changes in this section.
- Headset: Connect Headset connects supported headset button controls for answering and hanging up. This is separate from choosing a headset as your microphone or speaker in Audio Devices.
Quick troubleshooting
- Disconnected: check your internet connection and sign-in session. Confirm the correct extension is shown and that the phone returns to Connected.
- Connected but not ringing: check extension registration, turn off Do Not Disturb, keep the tab open and ask your administrator to confirm incoming-call routing.
- The other person cannot hear you: check microphone permission, the selected microphone and any headset or computer mute control.
- You cannot hear the other person: check the selected speaker, computer/headset volume and Call Volume. Recheck Audio Devices after connecting or changing a headset.
- Need more help: share the affected extension, date and time with time zone, browser, and whether the issue affects outgoing calls, incoming calls or audio. Do not include passwords. Remove unrelated personal information from screenshots.
