Set the Caller ID Name People See

Request a business calling name in Phone Numbers, check the LIDB display option and troubleshoot a missing, outdated or incorrect name.

The outbound calling name, often called CNAM, helps identify your business when a receiving phone service supports it. You request it per phone number. The receiving carrier, device, saved contacts or caller-identification app can affect what appears.

Submit a calling-name change

  1. Open Settings → Phone Numbers and confirm the location.
  2. Find the number and click its Settings action.
  3. Choose Caller ID in the Sections menu.
  4. Review Display outbound calling name (LIDB). Turn it on if you want to release the submitted name to called parties.
  5. Enter the Caller ID name you want customers to recognize. Follow the validation shown by the form; use a concise business name, avoid a leading space and do not use the phone number itself as the name.
  6. Click Submit change. Check the result and resolve any validation message before submitting again.

Turning off name display asks the carrier to suppress the calling name. It is not a control for hiding your phone number or a guarantee of anonymous calling.

Check the result

  • Confirm the extension is using the same phone number whose name you updated.
  • Allow for carrier processing. Submission in Office does not mean every receiving network has updated immediately.
  • Make agreed test calls to phones on different networks. Note whether a saved contact or a separate caller-ID app may be overriding the carrier name.
  • If the old or wrong name persists, send Support the business number, requested name, submission time, receiving carrier and recent test details with time zone. Include a screenshot with unrelated personal information hidden.

What this setting does not change

The Line name used to organize your numbers and the extension’s internal User name are separate from the external calling name. Likewise, CNAM does not control the route for returned calls.

A Spam or Scam label requires a separate labeling review. Updating the business name does not guarantee label removal. For more context, see the spam-label troubleshooting guide.
