Need to transfer your number?
Plan your number transfer: confirm eligibility, prepare documents, coordinate activation, test each service and review the old account.
Porting moves an existing phone number to Zonitel while keeping the number your customers already use. Start with an eligibility check, prepare the account records and plan the activation with our team.
Keep your current service active until the transfer is confirmed and tested. Canceling early can interrupt service and put the number at risk.
1. Confirm which numbers can move
Send Zonitel the numbers and their current providers, including mobile, landline, fax or toll-free lines. Tell us the country and whether you want to move every number or only some. Availability, documentation and any charges must be confirmed for your request before you plan the change.
2. Prepare the request
- Gather a recent bill, the actual account number, the exact account-holder name and the address used for port validation.
- Complete the requested authorization. A mobile account may require a Number Transfer PIN that differs from the usual account PIN.
- Identify numbers and connected services that must stay with the current provider, such as internet, fax or alarm service.
Use the complete porting checklist to prepare the documents and PIN. Share them through the channel arranged for your request.
3. Plan the date and call handling
Timing depends on the number type, provider, correct documentation and any pending orders or rejections. Your preferred date is a request; wait for Zonitel to confirm the activation date and window. Do not announce a final switch date based only on an estimate.
Ask whether a temporary Zonitel number and forwarding from your current provider would help you prepare. Test greetings, business hours, call routing and voicemail in advance. Forwarding calls does not by itself transfer SMS or fax service.
4. Test after activation
- Confirm each transferred number appears in Settings → Phone Numbers in the correct location.
- Call the number from an outside phone and check the intended greeting, destination and voicemail.
- Make an outgoing call and check its displayed number. Verify a return call reaches the right team.
- Test incoming and outgoing SMS/MMS or fax when these services are included and ready. Working voice calls alone do not confirm messaging or fax activation.
- If anything fails, send Zonitel the affected number, direction, date/time with time zone and the result. Keep an alternative contact method available during the transition.
5. Confirm what happens to the old account
After Zonitel confirms the transfer and your tests pass, ask the former provider which lines closed and which services or charges remain. Do not assume that porting one number cancels an entire account or that Zonitel automatically closes every related service. Follow the cancellation guide.
