After a Number Port: Calls Fail from One Carrier

After a Number Port: Calls Fail from One Carrier

Compare failed and successful incoming calls after a completed port, review Office call records and send a useful routing example to support.

Separate a routing problem from a phone problem

Use this guide when a number has completed its transfer to Zonitel but callers from one carrier cannot reach it, hear an unexpected voicemail or receive an announcement, while other callers get through. This pattern is useful evidence; it does not establish the cause by itself.

1. Confirm what moved and what fails

  • Confirm the exact business number and the completed port reference with Zonitel.
  • Identify whether the issue affects incoming voice calls, outgoing calls, SMS or fax. These services can need separate investigation.
  • Record when the issue began and whether it existed before the transfer.

Do not cancel an otherwise active service, start a second port request or change several call-flow settings to try to fix a carrier-specific failure.

2. Compare calls close together

  1. With permission from the callers, make a test from the affected carrier.
  2. Call the same business number from another carrier shortly afterward.
  3. Record the outcome of each call and its exact time and time zone. Include the full date; “this afternoon” is not precise enough.
  4. Note the actual originating service when known, such as a mobile line or a Wi-Fi calling service. Do not guess the carrier from the phone number's area code.

Describe what you hear: ringing, an announcement, unexpected voicemail, silence or a disconnect. A voicemail recording is not proof of which provider played it.

3. Check Office call records

Open Calls → All Calls for the correct location. Set Direction to incoming calls, choose the relevant Local Number, set From date / To date, and use Contact to search the calling number. Click Search.

Filter All Calls by direction, calling contact, local number and date range.
Devoffice example; identifying details removed. Filter All Calls by direction, calling contact, local number and date range.

Look for both the failed test and the successful comparison. If no result appears, clear restrictive filters and check the location and date range again. A missing Office record alone does not prove that a call never reached the carrier network. Support can investigate using the call samples.

4. Send both examples to Zonitel support

Copy this format for each test, including the working comparison:

  • Calling number: full originating number.
  • Called number: the ported business number.
  • Date and time: exact date, time and time zone.
  • Originating carrier/service: if confirmed.
  • Experience: exact announcement or voicemail behavior.
  • Office result: record found or not found, and reference if available.
  • Port reference: completion reference and date.

Share phone numbers and relevant screenshots privately through support. Ask for review of post-port routing and coordination with the relevant carriers. Do not assume that the absence of a portal entry identifies which carrier must correct the route.

5. Retest the same paths after an update

After support confirms an update, repeat calls from the previously failing carrier and the working comparison carrier. Check the intended destination, answer and two-way audio, then report the new dated results. Keep the case open until the affected path has been tested successfully.
