Call Pickup: Answer a Ringing Extension

Call Pickup: Answer a Ringing Extension

Use **{ext} to answer a call ringing at another Zonitel extension. Learn what to dial, when to use Call Pickup and how it differs from Paging.

Call Pickup lets you answer a call ringing at another Zonitel extension from your own extension. Use it when a teammate is away from their phone and you are authorized to help their caller.

What to dial

Dial **{ext}: two asterisks followed by the extension that is ringing. Replace {ext} with the actual extension; do not dial the braces.

Example: if extension 101 is ringing, dial **101. The extension in this example is illustrative; use your teammate’s actual extension.

Answer the call

  1. Identify the extension that is still ringing. Make sure this is a call you should answer.
  2. From your own Zonitel extension, dial ** followed by that extension and place the call. Do this as a new call, not by entering the code into a conversation already in progress.
  3. Once connected, greet the caller. You are answering the incoming call, not calling your teammate.

Call Pickup example: identify ringing extension 101, dial **101 from your extension, then greet the caller when connected.

If the call does not connect

Someone may have already answered, or the caller may have hung up. Check the extension number and use pickup only while the call is ringing. If it still fails, ask your administrator or Zonitel support to check pickup access for your extension.

Call Pickup is not Paging

Pickup answers an existing call. Paging / Intercom starts a new call or announcement to a teammate. Do not use pickup to join a conversation already in progress.
