Managing Your Opted-Out (Unsubscribed) List

Managing Your Opted-Out (Unsubscribed) List

Find unsubscribed recipients, honor their requests and distinguish opt-out records from contact deletion or discarded drafts.

The Opted-Out (Unsubscribed) list helps you review recipients who have unsubscribed from group messaging. An opt-out is a request to stop messages; it must not be bypassed by deleting or reimporting a contact.

Review the list

  1. Open Conversations → Group Messages.
  2. Select the Opted-Out (Unsubscribed) tab.
  3. Use Search opted-out… to find the recipient. Review the Phone Number, First Name, Last Name and List columns.
  4. Check the number and available details before planning any follow-up. If the list is empty, do not assume every contact has consented: you still need your consent records.

When a person asks you to stop

Honor STOP and other clear requests to stop messaging, including requests made through a reasonable contact method. If a request arrives outside the automatic keyword flow, ensure your team records and applies it through the supported process. Stop affected sends and review pending campaigns; contact Zonitel Support if the correct handling is unclear.

See opt-out keywords and clear unsubscribe requests.

Group Messages excludes recipients recorded as opted out. Keep your own consent and suppression records aligned with the portal. The size of a list does not prove that every listed person is eligible or that any message was delivered.

Three different actions

  • Opted-Out: records messaging opt-outs. It is not a list to clear before sending.
  • Delete Selected: is a contact-management action available in Contacts. Deleting a contact does not renew consent or provide a safe way to reactivate messaging.
  • Discard draft: is in the Inbox composer's + menu. It clears unsent content, not the opt-out list or conversation history.

If someone wants to subscribe again

Obtain and retain new, clear consent for the intended messages. Follow the supported re-enrollment process for your account or ask Zonitel Support to confirm it. Do not manually erase an opt-out, assume that importing the number restores consent, or send repeated test texts to a suppressed recipient.

See SMS Program Compliance Guide for the consent checklist and official references, and Group Messages for the sending workflow.
