Why Your Number Port Was Rejected and How to Fix It
Resolve number transfer rejections involving account details, mobile PINs, porting locks, authorization, pending orders or partial transfers.
If a number transfer to Zonitel is rejected, use the stated reason to correct the request with your current provider. This guide covers common US port-in rejections; requirements vary by provider and number type.
Keep the number and current service active while the transfer is pending. A rejection is not confirmation that the number has moved.
Find the reason in your notice
| Reason | What to check | How to correct it |
|---|---|---|
| Account number or name mismatch | Account number, exact account-holder name and authorized person. | Confirm the porting records with the current provider. Send Zonitel the corrected information; do not guess from a phone number or trade name. |
| Address or ZIP mismatch | The address used to validate the port. | For landline/VoIP, verify the service address, including suite and ZIP. A bill may show a different address. For mobile accounts, ask which address/ZIP is required. |
| Missing, invalid or expired PIN | Required porting code, validity and covered lines. | Have the authorized account holder obtain the correct code from the current provider. Send the update through the channel arranged for your port. |
| Porting freeze or number lock | Protection preventing a provider change. | The authorized owner must resolve it through the current provider’s official process. Confirm removal is complete and keep its reference. |
| Missing or incorrect authorization | Letter of Authorization (LOA), listed numbers, signer and date. | Complete the requested authorization accurately. Supply a clear document using the format requested for your number type. |
| BTN/ATN or full/partial transfer mismatch | Main billing number and which numbers move or stay. | Confirm the correct BTN/ATN with the provider. List both groups; if the main number moves, coordinate a replacement BTN for remaining services. |
| Another order is pending | Duplicate transfer, account change or feature order. | Ask the current provider to identify and resolve the blocking order. Coordinate with Zonitel before canceling anything or submitting another port. |
| Disconnected, inactive or not portable | The provider’s internal status of the number. | Ask the current provider to correct the status or reactivate service where needed. Send the provider’s status confirmation to Zonitel so our team can review eligibility and the next step. |
| Linked services or special features | Internet/DSL, hunt groups or other services tied to the line. | Coordinate continuity and any required feature changes with the current provider and Zonitel before proceeding. Do not disconnect dependent services blindly. |
Mobile number: check the transfer PIN carefully
A Number Transfer PIN / Port-Out PIN may differ from your normal account PIN. Prepaid and business accounts can have different requirements. Confirm expiration and line coverage; if you generate a replacement, notify Zonitel because an earlier PIN may become invalid. Never send your online login password or phone-unlock code.
Continue in three steps
- Verify the rejected detail. Ask the current provider which record is used for port validation. If a bill conflicts, ask whether a Customer Service Record (CSR) or another confirmation is available.
- Update the existing case. Send Zonitel the order reference, affected numbers, exact rejection, corrected detail and provider confirmation. Share sensitive account information privately.
- Wait for a confirmed date. Corrections can change the schedule. Keep service active and wait for Zonitel’s new confirmation before planning the switch.
Rejected request or problem after activation?
If the port already has a confirmed completion but calls, SMS or fax fail, report it as a service issue with the completion reference and recent examples. Do not start a duplicate transfer request. If no reason was provided, ask Zonitel for the current status and exact rejection before changing account details.
