How can I get a new number?

How can I get a new number?

Request a local or toll-free number, review availability and cost, then confirm call routing and any messaging requirements.

Request a number for your business

Contact the team to add a number for a new business, another location or a department. Tell us the area code you prefer, whether you want local or toll-free service, and how you plan to use the number.

New number steps: request, choose, route, and test.

Local or toll-free?

  • Local: uses an area code associated with a particular region. This can be useful for a location or a team serving that area.
  • Toll-free: uses a toll-free prefix rather than a local area code. Ask about the coverage and pricing for your intended callers.

Availability varies. If a specific number or area code is unavailable, ask for alternatives. Do not print or advertise a requested number until the team confirms that it is assigned and active.

Before activation

  1. Review the available number choices and any recurring or additional cost.
  2. Choose the number and confirm which location or department will use it.
  3. Tell the team which phones should ring, which greeting to use and what should happen after hours.
  4. Confirm whether you need voice, fax or messaging. These services should be checked separately.

Find the number in your portal

Once the team confirms activation, open Settings → Phone Numbers. Find the assigned number in the list. The options shown depend on your services and permissions.

Real portal screens: Settings, Phone Numbers, Service Type, Settings and Call Flow.

Service Type identifies the listed services. Settings opens number options; Call Flow controls what callers hear and where calls go. If you cannot find the number, check that you are in the correct location and ask the team to confirm assignment.

Test before using it with customers

  • Call the new number from an outside phone and confirm the expected destination.
  • Make an outgoing call and check the displayed caller ID.
  • Check voicemail and after-hours routing.
  • If you requested fax or messaging, confirm readiness and test those services separately.

Need SMS or MMS? Ask which registration, verification or activation steps apply to that number. Being able to make and receive calls does not by itself confirm messaging is ready.

Common questions

Can I choose the exact digits?
You can choose from the available options. Tell the team if you want a memorable number.

Can I use several numbers or keep my current ones?
Yes. Explain where each number should route. See keeping your existing numbers for transfer preparation.

How soon can I use it?
Wait for confirmation that assignment, configuration and the requested services are ready. Availability and activation requirements can vary.
