Use a Voice Agent Outside Business Hours
Combine an after-hours receptionist with the closed-hours call route while preserving your daytime call handling.
After hours selects the receptionist’s role. The Business Hours rule in Call Flow determines when callers reach it. Both parts must be configured for after-hours-only answering.
1. Prepare the receptionist
In AI → Voice Agents → Create receptionist, choose After hours. Set the business name, language and voice. Add the appropriate business knowledge and, if it will help with bookings, the intended calendars. Complete creation and identify the assigned extension.
2. Use the closed-hours route
Open Settings → Phone Numbers → Call Flow for the business number. Review the relevant Business Hours rule, including its days, hours and time zone. Keep the daytime destination and use the receptionist’s extension for the closed-hours destination.
Confirm that incoming calls actually reach this hours rule. A rule that exists but is not connected to the number’s route will not control its calls. Routing directly to the receptionist instead would bypass that hours decision.
3. Test both paths
Verify the open-hours path still reaches your usual destination. Verify the closed-hours path reaches the receptionist and that its greeting, business answers and any booking options are correct.
The calendars may offer appointments during different hours from the phone’s answering schedule. Review both settings separately. If taking a caller’s details is part of your workflow, verify how your team will receive and follow up on them before relying on that process.
