How to Forward Calls (Call Forwarding)

How to Forward Calls (Call Forwarding)

Use *72 to forward your Zonitel extension and *73 to turn forwarding off. Learn how this differs from forwarding your business number through the portal or mobile app.

Choose what you want to forward

One extension: use its forwarding code or Follow Me. The entire business number: use that number’s Call Forwarding settings. These are separate settings; turning one off does not necessarily turn the other off.

1. Forward one extension with *72

  1. Dial *72 from the Zonitel extension you want to forward and place the call.
  2. Follow the spoken prompts to enter the destination number. Use an allowed number you are authorized to use.
  3. Complete the prompts and wait for confirmation before hanging up.
  4. Call the extension from another phone to confirm that forwarding works.

Dial star 72 and follow the forwarding prompts

To turn this extension forwarding off, dial *73 from the same extension, listen for confirmation and test again. The optional *74 code toggles extension forwarding; use *72 or *73 when you want a specific state. For several destinations or timed ringing, use the Follow Me guide.

2. Forward the whole number from the Office Portal

  1. Open Settings → Phone Numbers.
  2. Find the correct number and click Settings in Actions.
  3. Choose Call Forwarding in Sections.
  4. Turn on Enable call forwarding.
  5. Enter Destination phone number in the format shown by the form.
  6. Click Save and make an external test call to the business number.

Whole-number forwarding settings

This is always-forwarding: when enabled, it redirects calls regardless of Business Hours or time conditions. For forwarding only outside office hours, configure the appropriate Business Hours destination instead.

3. Turn number forwarding off

Return to the same number’s Call Forwarding section, turn off Enable call forwarding and click Save. Call again to verify that the intended normal route answers. The *73 extension code does not switch off this number-level setting.

Mobile app option

If your app shows Menu → Call Forwarding, select the intended number, enable forwarding, enter the destination and save. Confirm the number being changed and test an incoming call. If the option is unavailable, use the Office Portal steps above.

Check the destination and fallback

  • Do not forward to the same number or to another number that routes back to it.
  • Test both an answered and unanswered call, especially when using a cell phone whose carrier voicemail may answer.
  • If forwarding does not work, check the saved number, confirmation and any other active routing rules.
  • Forwarding controls incoming calls; it is not the setting for outbound caller ID.
