WhatsApp Payment Method and Messaging Changes from October 2026
Add your payment method directly in Meta. Understand the October 1, 2026 service-message allowance, utility-message charges and checks to avoid interruptions.
Last reviewed: October 1, 2026. This guide concerns Meta platform pricing, not a new law. Meta may update its requirements and rates.
Who adds and pays for the payment method?
The customer must add and maintain their own payment method directly in Meta for their WhatsApp Business account. Zonitel does not provide a Meta credit line. A card saved for your Zonitel subscription does not automatically become your WhatsApp payment method. Meta messaging charges and your Zonitel service billing are separate.
Where to check in Office
Open Settings → WhatsApp in Office to identify the connected business account and number. Do not change the number selection or call routing just to update billing.
Add or review the method directly in Meta
- Sign in to Meta using a business administrator authorized to manage billing.
- Open Meta Billing Hub. Select the correct business portfolio and WhatsApp Business/Messaging account. Labels and available methods can vary by account and country.
- In its billing/payment settings, add a supported payment method or review the existing one. Complete the confirmation steps presented by Meta and verify that it belongs to the intended WhatsApp account.
- Check payment warnings, failed charges, balances and any account spending limits. Resolve billing issues directly in Meta.
- After billing is ready, check message delivery from Office. If a message still fails, review its error before resending repeatedly.
Security: enter card details only in Meta. Never send your full card number, CVV, password or verification codes to Zonitel support.
What changes on October 1, 2026?
Meta applies these changes from midnight in the Messaging account timezone:
- Service messages: 1,000 delivered messages per business number each month are included; after that, per-message charges apply. This is not 1,000 conversations. The allowance does not roll over.
- No payment method: service deliveries can use the allowance, but stop after it is exhausted.
- Utility templates: messages within an open 24-hour service window also become chargeable. Do not count templates as part of the service-message allowance.
- The 24-hour rule still applies: each incoming user message renews the service window. Adding a payment method does not remove messaging-policy restrictions.
These are business-message delivery charges, not a charge just for receiving a customer message. Applicable prices vary by market and message category; special eligibility rules may apply. Consult Meta’s official pricing and October 2026 updates for current rates and exceptions.
Does this change my WhatsApp call flow?
This is a messaging-billing guide, not a change to your configured call routing. WhatsApp calling has separate requirements and pricing. See Receive WhatsApp calls on your business phones.
