Desk Phone Not Ringing or Showing No Service
Separate a ringing problem from a connection problem. Check power, network, DND and forwarding safely, and learn what information helps Zonitel support investigate.
A phone that does not ring is not always disconnected. Start by identifying whether the screen is off, the phone reports a service or network problem, or it appears connected but does not receive the expected calls. Use another working phone if you need to make an urgent call.
If the screen is off or shows No Service
- Check the display and normal wake controls. A sleeping screen is different from a phone without power. Do not hold unfamiliar key combinations.
- Check the phone’s existing power and network connections visually. Some phones get power through the Ethernet cable; others use a compatible power adapter. A cable connected to a PC pass-through port is not a substitute for the phone’s network connection. Port labels vary by model.
- Check whether other phones at the same location are affected. If several fail together, report that; it can help support investigate a shared connection or service issue.
- Write down the exact message. No Service, Network Unavailable and a registration error are clues, not diagnoses. A lit screen or working internet on a nearby computer does not prove the phone line is registered.
If the phone is connected but does not ring
- Check ringer volume while the phone is idle. Call volume and microphone Mute are different controls.
- Review DND and forwarding indicators. Change them only if they are not part of your intended setup. DND does not always send calls to voicemail; the destination depends on routing.
- Notice when it happens. Only while already on a call, only after hours, only on a business number, or also on a direct extension call? Call waiting, schedules and ring-group membership can lead to different results.
Restart is not a factory reset
If your administrator or Zonitel support recommends restarting, finish all active and held calls first and use the restart method for your model. A restart temporarily interrupts the phone. Never interrupt a firmware update, repeatedly unplug the phone or restart shared network equipment as a troubleshooting shortcut.
Do not choose Factory Reset, Restore Defaults or change account, network or provisioning settings. Those actions can remove or alter the setup needed for service.
What to send support
Contact Zonitel support with your location, extension, phone model, exact screen message, start time and whether one or several phones are affected. Include recent changes such as a move or internet outage. Share photos privately, hiding personal caller details, and never send passwords.
