How to Enable “Do Not Disturb” (DND) from Your Desk Phone
Do Not Disturb (DND) is perfect when you’re in a meeting, on lunch, or need focus time. When enabled, your extension stops ringing, and incoming calls are handled according to your system’s DND behavior (commonly routed to voicemail or treated as unavailable). This article shows you how to turn DND ON/OFF from a physical phone using feature codes, plus how to test and troubleshoot if it doesn’t work as expected.
Step-by-step
1) Turn DND ON (Enable)

From your desk phone (your extension), dial: *78.

Wait for the confirmation prompt/tone (varies by setup).

Hang up.
✅ Your extension is now in Do Not Disturb mode.
2) Turn DND OFF (Disable)

From the same desk phone/extension, dial: *79.

Wait for the confirmation prompt/tone.
-
Hang up.
✅ Calls should ring normally again.
3) Optional: Toggle DND (if enabled on your system)
Some systems also have a “toggle” code (turns DND on/off with one code). If your admin has it enabled, you may see *77 listed as the toggle.
If your toggle code is different, check your feature codes (see below).
Quick test (recommended)

Turn DND ON using *78.

Call your extension from another phone.

Confirm your phone does not ring and that the call follows your configured DND behavior (e.g., voicemail).
